Biography
Tom Hodgkinson, a 20-year-old classical guitarist from Essex, England, has an impressive musical background and a growing presence in the international guitar community. Whilst completing his education at Brentwood School, he pursued advanced studies at Junior Trinity Laban with Rebecca Baulch and also at the Segovia Academy in Pordenone, Italy with Paolo Pegoraro. In September 2023, Tom moved to Graz, Austria, to continue his studies with Pegoraro at the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts (Kunstuniversität Graz). During his development as a musician, Tom caught the attention of legendary guitarist John Williams, who now provides him with regular mentorship. Under the guidance of both Williams and Pegoraro, Tom continues to refine his artistry. A highly proficient jazz guitarist as well as a classical performer, Tom gives regular recitals across the UK and Europe, having performed in Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Spain, and England. He has led the National Youth Guitar Ensemble and performed alongside numerous high-calibre ensembles. He toured Spain and Germany with the National Youth Guitar Ensemble UK and performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, appearing at major venues such as the Bridgewater Hall and the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. He also plays continuo on the lute, contributing to early music projects with stylistic awareness and sensitivity. In 2022, he was named Essex Young Musician of the Year (open age, all instruments), and in July 2025, he won First Prize at the Petrer International Youth Guitar Competition in Spain — in recognition of his growing international reputation |
