Cello/Piano/Organ Recital
Wednesday 24 November 1 pm
On Wednesday 24 November we were treated to a splendid cello recital with piano and organ accompaniment in a programme including French, German and Russian music. Oliver Farrant a London-based cellist was accompanied by Stephen King, who is well know to all of us as the organist at the Cathedral. The cello filled the Cathedral with wonderful, luxuriant, almost singing tones, as first the organ, in the piece by Fauré, and subsequently the piano with the remaining pieces, provided the essential accompaniment. This proved to be an exceptional recital with both Oliver and Stephen both able to exhibit their wonderful musicianship to the full.
Oliver was awarded a first class degree from the Royal Northern College of Music and was Principal Cellist for the National Youth Orchestra. He gives multiple public concerto performances and also teaches musicians of all ages and abilities |
