This was a wonderfully moving service of Vespers held in the Cathedral to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day
In this way we wanted to show our continuing support for the suffering people of Ukraine. Fr Gary officiated, assisted by Deacons Simon and Paul Conrad. Music was provided by the Cathedral Choir led by our Director of Music, Andrew Wright, with Stephen King at the organ. We were very pleased to welcome the Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Gareth Barrett. The Service was streamed live on Cathedral Music Facebook – see below for some edited extracts. The Service began with a piece of Ukrainian music ,‘Two Colours’ , beautifully sung by one of our Ukrainian choristers, Alina-Marie. (See below) Maidi B read from Ephesians, and later Natalia, the mother of Alina-Marie, read the intercessions in Ukrainian. She did this at short notice owing to the indisposition of the original reader. |
