Noye’s Fludde – 2010
Brentwood Cathedral was the setting for a spectacular production of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde which ran for three performances in 2010. It was produced and directed by David Worsfold, who set it in present-day Essex to create a vibrant relevance for the local audiences and the young people who took part. The music was led by the Cathedral’s Director of Music, Andrew Wright, and the two lead parts of Mr and Mrs Noye were taken by members of the Cathedral Choir, David Taylor and Sophie Biebuyck. Younger members of the choir took the parts of Noye’s children and their wives. Local schools collaborated by providing the animals, such an essential part of the story of the Ark. Musicians were drawn from local schools and other groups, including buglers from the Real British Legion Youth Band. The costumes and animal masks were made by a team from the Parish. |
