Stefan Weidner & Arnaldo Cogorno

Trinity Laban Conservatoire

  Piano Recital

Wednesday  24 April 2024 – 1 pm to 1:45 pmrecitals

On Wednesday 24 April, we greatly enjoyed an extraordinary piano recital performed by Arnaldo Cogorno & Stefan Weidner both of whom are senior students from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire.

At the Cathedral we are fully accustomed to appreciating lovely music, but today was special, with pieces ranging from Bach to Schumann, via the contemporary Uruguayan composer Miguel del Águila.

Arnaldo began with an excellent interpretation of the musical precision of Bach, while his second offering gave way to the complex and accelerating rhythms of South America, all beautifully mastered by Arnaldo.

Stefan’s contribution was a superb rendition of the first and third movements of Schumann’s Fantasie in C. This wonderful music, full of brooding emotion was really brought alive to us in Stefan’s excellent performance.

And, our musicians, quite properly, received a standing ovation from a very appreciative audience in the Cathedral.

Programmerecitals

Arnaldo played:
J.S. Bach (1685 – 1750) Partita BWV 825 in Bb Major
Miguel del Águila (b. 1957) Sonata no. 2 – 1st Movement

recitals

Stefan played:
Robert Schumann (1810 – 1856) Fantasie in C, op 17 Movements I & 3 {durchaus fantastisch und leidenschaftlich vorzutragen}

recitals

Canon John Harvey, Dean of the Cathedral, having enjoyed the recital, joined our two soloists for a photograph.
